Choosing to Live at The Gaia Project
An Invitation to Co-Create a Sustainable Way of Life
If you’re looking not just for a place to live—but for a purpose-driven way of life—The Gaia Project could be the home you’ve been searching for. We’re inviting like-minded families to join us as long-term members of our growing community in the Algarve, Portugal.
The Gaia Project is a non-profit initiative working towards a self-sustaining future—ecologically, socially, and financially. Our vision is to live in harmony with nature, raise our children in freedom, and create a lifestyle that costs less, nourishes more, and thrives on shared responsibility. This is a place where you can grow your own food, reconnect with the land, and be part of a supportive, collaborative environment.
Why Join as a Long-Term Family?
Investment in the Future: A one-time investment of €1,500 secures your place as a long-term member. This contribution directly supports the development and sustainability of the community and is non-refundable. It is not a fee or a deposit, but a shared commitment to the vision we are building together.
Lower Living Costs: We are actively working towards subsidised living, with the goal of reducing monthly expenses for families as the project becomes financially self-sustaining.
Community-Funded Model: Income generated from visiting families and community events goes directly back into the project. These funds are used to lower costs for all long-term members—helping to cover rent, utilities, and shared expenses—rather than being distributed as direct payments.
Community Governance: Every family has a voice in shaping how Gaia grows, with a democratic model at the heart of decision-making.
Living the Vision: Be part of something meaningful—raising children in nature, practicing conscious living, and co-creating a regenerative future.
Application Process
We are currently open to applications from families only who feel aligned with our mission and values, and who are ready to actively contribute to daily life within the community. All prospective members will go through an application and interview process to ensure mutual fit.
Before applying, we ask all applicants to read and accept The Gaia Project Ethos, as shared values are the foundation of everything we do.
